It’s well accepted that exercise is incredibly important for human health.

As we grow older it is even more crucial that we exercise to prevent the onset of chronic diseases like:
- Sarcopenia
- Osteopenia
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Dementia
- Arthritis

What’s not discussed enough is, how should exercise be designed for people who are in their 60’s-90’s?

This is an important distinction to make.

Exercise should evolve over the course of ones life to match the individuals requirements at that time!

We are super excited to have Joshua Foster, the founder of Health-Span Fitness, come on The Mindful Motion Podcast to have a discussion about his online training program where he teaches personal trainers to safely end effectively prescribe exercise for seniors.

Josh find’s working with older demographics incredibly rewarding and believes that this demographic is under-serviced and not well taken care of.

Why is creating change within our lives so difficult?
For many of us, we get stuck in the thinking phase of creating change. We have this internal battle in our minds about what we think is required to make changes. We think about what types of actions would get us to our goals and how we might instill this actions into our lives.
It seems many people get stuck in this aspect of the change cycle, never really taking any meaningful action out of fear of failure, lack of motivation, or maybe just pure dislike of the process of change.
Understanding that Homeostasis is a powerful driver for keeping us the way we are. In essence, homeostasis is the bodies regulatory process to maintain its current status and avoid changes within our system. It keeps us the way we are and prevents us from changing. This is a big part of why making changes is so challenging.
If you want to make changes to your body, mind, and life the undeniable reality is ACTION is required. Physical action and decisions are the vehicle for making changes to your body and life.
In some cases, many people feel if they're not taking perfect action its not worth pursuing. But, imperfect action will always win over no action at all.
In order to grow and change you have to fail and learn from your mistakes. This is the process. Every failure is a chance to make adjustments to your actions so you can do better the next time.
Be kind to yourself.
Give yourself space to a make mistakes.
Be grateful of the opportunities you have.
Be grateful for what you have.
Stop overthinking.
Take imperfect action.

“Exercise is the best medicine for human health.” This is a commonplace statement.

Why does it matter to define things?
If you want to understand
✅what you’re doing
✅what you’re working with
✅how to change it
✅how to achieve your goals
🏹🎯CLARITY is key 🔑

The current healthcare system is reactive in nature and is set up mostly to deal with progressed injuries and problems.

It is not that well set up to be proactive and prevent issues from developing.

Currently, most people exercise in what I would call a “traditional” manner. They go to the gym, run, bike, or play sports.

During this “traditional” exercise there is often little to no attention to long-term health.

Far too often, people get injured participating in their exercise and have to see a Physical Therapist or Chiro.

They do their rehab to restore their health and return to the same activities that injured them. Repeating this vicious cycle again and again.

There is a division between “traditional” exercise and rehab exercise.

Instead of this model, what would be serve people best is if these 2 training modalities merged. So that when people exercised they were promoting health and longevity and not breaking their bodies down. Call if Pre-hab Training if you want.

This is the future of exercise!
